Challenge #6: Backlit Portrait

Sunday, July 31, 2011
This week's theme brought on...well...a challenge. I messed around for quite a while with the camera I'm using. It was hard to get a significant backlight without losing my friend's face to the sun. I took many silhouette pictures, as well as many that had way too much glare... I think this one turned out pretty well, though I'll experiment more with the idea of lighting from behind the subject.

Challenge #5: Wheels

Sunday, July 24, 2011
This week's theme was both fun and unexpectedly challenging. When I picked the theme "wheels" I thought it would be easier. However, it took a bit of searching and countless pictures of brightly colored cars before I came up with something a bit more creative. This bike was at Golden Gardens, positioned perfectly in the bike rack so that I was able to shoot through it. Great cruiser bike...looked like a lot of fun in the sand.

Challenge #4: Lines

Sunday, July 17, 2011
This week's theme was a bit tricky, but was a fun challenge. My dad and I ended up driving around the valley looking for lines...we came up with quite a few different shots, but I'm partial to this one. The horses here were fairly friendly and interested in the clicks the camera made!

Challenge #3: Patriotic

Saturday, July 10, 2011
In honor of the 4th of July, the theme this week was "patriotic." There was certainly quite a bit of red, white, and blue all over the island. Roche was completely decked out. This shot is of the flagpole that stands at the harbor, flying the flag of the US, Canada, UK, and Washington State.

Challenge #2: Beverages

Sunday, July 3, 2011
Challenge number two completed! This week's theme, chosen by Island Fever, was beverages. It took a bit of monkeying around to get this shot to come out right, but I'm quite pleased with the end result. On another note, this is the Our Lady of Good Voyage Chapel at Roche Harbor that has quite a bit of history. Here's what the blurb on their website says about it:

The Chapel was built for the McMillin family as a Methodist church in the late 1800's. It was also used as a schoolhouse for the Company children. After the Tarte family bought the resort in 1956 the Chapel was refurbished and dedicated as a Catholic Church. It is the only privately owned Catholic Church in the United States.
