Small Town Theatre Spirit

Wednesday, January 5, 2010
This is a picture I took of a mural downtown. I'd never really stopped to study these paintings, but they're very fun and expressive of the town. There's one of the stage, one of a potter, one of a sewing man among another one I can't remember. My town has a very small theatre that isn't often spoken of, but I think it's cool that we actually have one...maybe I'll do a production or something there at some point.

Quote Of The Day:
"An actor is part illusionist, part artist, part ham." ~ Oscar Wilde

50 Word Story:
Spark of Bravo
A small town like the one just before the mountains didn't seem like it would have much to offer, maybe a car dealership, real estate, mountain supplies, a less-than-perfect bakery. However, the town had a spirit of its own in the theatre. Local actors performed to put a spark in the town.

Flying Proudly

Tuesday, January 4, 2010
I took this shot a little while ago and was trying to get a view from a different
angle. I'm a bit disappointed, as this shot didn't turn out quite as nice as I'd
hoped, but it works.

Quote Of The Day:
"If I fall, pick up the flag, kiss it, and keep on going." ~ Omar
Torrijos Herrera

50 Word Story:
International Pride
A banner of many colors drifting lightly in the wind as it's hoisted up the flag
pole into the sky, regardless of what the weather holds. It flies at the top of the
pole, the cloth flapping in the wind. No matter the color or the emblem, the
flag flies.

Gum Should Stay in One's Mouth

Monday, January 3, 2010
Well...today is my last day of vacation. Today is a sad day. Actually, it's
not because I had a ton of fun. I went with my mom and a friend to see the
Picasso exhibit. We then wandered around and got lunch. It was a good ending
to such a relaxing break. Today's picture is one taken on a photo shoot I went
on a little while ago. This is the gum wall. There's this huge wall just coated in
globs of gum of every color and flavor...not that I've ever been stupid enough
to taste or even come within a foot of this wall. You cannot even imagine how
disgusting yet impressive it is...

Quote Of The Day:
"Flattery is like chewing gum. Enjoy it but don't swallow
it." ~ Hank Ketcham

50 Word Story:
Gum Thrower
A little boy chews a wad of gum in his mouth, a small dribble of drool
running out the corner of his lips. Standing in front of the gum wall, he
removes it from his mouth, pulls his arm back, and throws the glob. It sticks
right to the wall.

Defying Gravity

Sunday, January 2, 2010
I took this shot today when I was out and around town with a friend. We went
on a mini photo shoot, and although it was fun, it was quite cold. This tricycle
is hung up on the bike shop and I wanted a picture of it from below. Of course,
my fellow photographer suggests that I lie down on the sidewalk (which
happens to be very nasty) and I take her advice. There were numerous
attempts at this shot, but I'm glad one actually turned out, as I not only
suffered the cold and the nasty sidewalk, but many pictures taken of me in said
position.

Quote Of The Day:
"Consulting the rules of composition before taking a
photograph is like consulting the laws of gravity before
going for a walk." ~ Edward Weston

50 Word Story:
Dreams of Zero Gravity
He'd watched the launches of numerous space shuttles ever since he was a
little boy, always curious and wondering what lay ahead of them, where they
were going, and why. He became one of those people in white spacesuits,
waving goodbye as they boarded the shuttle. One man defying gravity.

Crows

Saturday, January 1, 2011
Happy 2011! I went out geocaching today...(How did my dad and I manage to
get ourselves into that?) It was quite chilly outside, to put it mildly. However, I
borrowed a camera from a friend and had great fun using that. This was one of
the shots I took of a bunch of crows "just chillin'" in a tree. I'm sure everyone's
had some sort of experience with crows....one of my classmates once claimed
that a crow chased her across campus. They've also been known to steal whole
bagels...In fact, crows are number eight out of ten on the smartest animals list.

Quote Of The Day:
"The crow wished everything was black, the owl, that
everything was white." ~ William Blake

50 Word Story:
Not so Famous, Just as Clever
Black figures of flight, slightly smaller than the majestic ravens so often talked
of. Cousins. Perched on tree branches and cawing loudly in the still and silent
air. Black wings ruffling in the breeze and sneaky eyes keeping stern watch on
the prize. This is the essence of a crow.
